ICFAR will close it's 2009/10 series of master classes for doctoral students at UAL with Dr Joshua Sofaer, who has kindly agreed to come and discuss his practice, PhD experiences and career at the Art Worker's Guild on the 7 April 2010 between 2-5pm.
Between 6:00pm and 8:00pm on the 25 March 2010 at Chelsea College of Art and Design's Lecture Theatre, Professor Paul Coldwell, will hold an in conversation discussion with Professor Oriana Baddeley (Director of Ressearch for Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon Colleges) and Stephen Bury (Head of European & American Collections, British Library.
What does it mean to an artists to undertake and complete a PhD? What can PhD students who are themselves practicing artists learn from artists who have undergone the doctoral process?

This July ICFAR is pleased to be able to host distinguished Australian artist Jude Walton as the Centre's Summer Fellow. Among other things, Jude will be participating in the From Scratch event at The Drawing Room.
On 27th March 2009, ICFAR recieved news that it's application, made on the 12 February to fund a series of events examining the legacy of the Scratch Orchestra, had been successful.
ICFAR is currently co-hosting Leverhulme Visiting Professor, Bonnie Marranca with Queen Mary University of London Bonnie Marranca’s writing and publishing includes several books and essays on the American avant garde and to mark the close of her residency in London she has invited two distinguished multi disciplinary artists performers to present their work. In early April the New York based Fluxus artist, poet and performer Alison Knowles, gave a two-day workshop for artists and PhD students from UAL, Roehampton, Birkbeck and co-Leverhulme hosts Queen Mary University of London.
The Anatomy of a Small Grant was the first of a series of seminars organised through ICFAR, designed to develop research leadership in relation to external grant applications, providing a forum for informal sharing of knowledge and focusing on the development of confidence and skills in application writing to a variety of schemes. The series is aimed at fine art research staff who have an application they wish to pursue, or are thinking of making an application. Future events will focus upon applications for fellowship awards, and Arts Council funding this year.
On the 5th February ICFAR hosted a one-day research symposium with screenings, curated by Research Fellow Steven Ball of the British Artists’ Film and Video Study Collection. The event examined Australian artists’ moving image practice in relation to history and the archive and was connected both to BAFVSC's ongoing research into archive and the moving image, and to the curatoral project Figuring Landscapes, which includes work by the visiting presenters.
ICFAR is pleased to announce its joint Leverhulme Visiting Professorship, in partnership with Queen Mary University, London. The award brings New York based publisher and editor Bonnie Marranca to the UK from January to May 09, to conduct a series of public events co-curated between ICFAR and Queen Mary, and to work with ICFAR Director, Claire MacDonald, on a publications project on performance drawing.
